The article by Hu & Meng (2003) serves to remind important virtues of assessing attachment in Chinese infants. In this commentary, the author further develops the potential contributions of this approach. After introducing some important topics of attachment theory, such as internal working models, measurement on attachment, cultural differences of attachment, and intergenerational transmission, the author argues that the distinctions in some attachment behaviors of Chinese infants may not be due to culturalenvironmental and familyparenting factors, as Hu & Meng (2003) claimed. It is reasonable that these distinctions might be caused by intergenerational transmission of attachment.
